Local Attractions:

Captain Scott is remembered for his final – tragic –expedition to the South Pole. However, RRS Discovery was part of one of Scott’s earlier, and hugely successful, trips to the region. It was launched in Dundee to carry Scott’s crew on the National Arctic Expedition.

Staying with maritime history, you really should see HM Frigate Unicorn – a classic wooden warship which inspires thoughts of swashbuckling and derring-do.

Oh, and St Andrews is little more than a short hop across the Tay Bridge. The town is steeped in three great traditions – early Scottish Christianity, academia and golf.

And you can’t visit this part of Scotland without taking in a few castles – or a few drams. That’s why you simply have to make time for the Queen Mother’s childhood home, Glamis Castle. Or there’s Scone Palace - the crowning palace of Scottish kings.

Museums and attractions
Dundee is one of the UK’s hottest cities for all things visual – partly due to the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. And the best place to catch up with the latest exhibitions and arthouse films is DCA (Dundee Contemporary Arts).

Pop into Sensation after your visit to DCA. This is Dundee’s science centre, and as the name suggests, exhibits major on the senses.

You can also see one of the UK’s most famous theatre groups at Dundee Rep. For a programme that takes in ballet to balladeers, Caird Hall Theatre offers up an intriguing mix of productions.
