Prestonfield was built as the grand baroque homes of Edinburgh's Lord provost in 1687, to the designs of Sir Williams Brue who had just completed the Royal Palace of Holyrood House nearby. Designed to impress and delight its many famous visitors, you will find prestonfield remains just as splendid today - possibly even more so - with many of the original furnishings now lavishingly restored and luxuriously opulent decoration throughout.

Rhubarb is James Thomson's latest destination restaurant - and the most opulent to date!
Richly decadent, stylish and very, very glamorous, it occupies two exceptionally grand Regency oval rooms hidden at the heart of his lavishly restored Prestonfield. Rhubarb delivers all of the magic, drama and romance you would expect from the creator of the famed Witchery by the Castle.
The Tea House
Prestonfield’s gothic tea house sits among banks of voluptuous old-fashioned roses and neat-clipped topiaries in Prestonfield’s formal rose garden, where this perfect hideaway is ideal for afternoon tea, for drinks or simply a place to escape with a book.

All our guest bedrooms and suites are individually designed.
Each is styled with either double or twin beds, comfortable chairs or sofa, a writing desk, decorative antiques, and a dressing area with fully fitted wardrobes, trouser press, iron and ironing board - and a hospitality tray.
Walls are covered in tactile velvets, silk brocades, or hand-printed papers. And discreetly hidden inside a splendid Gothic cabinet, you’ll find a 30” flat screen television, DVD player, safe, plus a mini-bar. Every room has a Bose Wave sound system and direct-dial telephone with voicemail.
Bathrooms are finished in marble and Venetian glass mosaic, with luxury robes, warm fluffy towels, and exclusive toiletries.

Peacocks strut across perfectly manicured lawns, highland cattle graze in the surrounding 20 acres of rolling parkland, and the splendid Prestonfield golf course adjoins the east wing of the house.
